I have a newborn infant who was administered the wrong immunization at her two month checkup. She was given menactra which is only given to teenagers to protect against meningitis, it has never been tested on anyone younger than two and not supposed to be taken by breastfeeding mothers. You could imagine my contin ued anxiety. I was told by the doctors office that they had a meeting about this issue, hardly seems enough! I am glad that you are shedding light on this. With so many immunizations being given it needs to be done with caution not in a hurry!
Families that decide to delay vaccinations are putting others at risk. This is just another case where the family is looking for a windfall. Nothing to see here, move along.
I also delay and selective Vaccines my children. I declined my son's Hep B in the hospital, but then it turned out that it was put on the state's records that he had received it. After researching it turns out he did not get the vaccine.
They keep trying to get me to sign off on vaccines we do not want. Thankfully I'm right there with my kids and read everything they hand me. I changed to a new doctor for my children because of the lack of respect for my choices as a mom.
Also my son was Circumcised during a surgery to correct cordee and hypospaidas when I made it clear that I did not want him to be.
No. Granted, they have the right to be upset over the situation, but one point I would like to make is this. "Who sends there 12 year old child back in the office by themself in the first place???" The mother should have gone with him no matter how many other children she had with her. Not only would it have saved him the unwanted immunizations, but also been a comfort. Even 12 year olds need that!
When my first son was born C-section, (30 years ago,) they took out my appendix as a"routine procedure." I didn't know anything about it until my first checkup. The doctor told me that it was standard procedure "while they were in there anyway!"
I know 3 parents whose babies were "accidentally" given the hep b shot in the hospital when the parents declined it. And to comment on Bill's statement, no one has the right to perform a medical procedure on you without your consent. This is not Nazi Germany (as far as I know).
Bill R- If you have the vaccine, then your safe right? So how are people that choose not to pump their kids full of toxins all at once putting you and everyone else that are vaccinated at risk? Seems like a silly argument to me. So do you not trust that the vaccines are going to save you? If that is the case then what is the point of the vaccine?
Hep A is not needed for anyone not going to a place that it is unclean, or people not taking part in activities that put them at risk. The longer we wait on most vaccines the fewer shots our children have to get. By spacing them out is not putting them at risk. It leaves me open to know WHAT vaccine caused a reaction should a reaction happen. Say my child gets the Dtap and Hib at the same time... reaction happens. But to which one? Do them one at a time then I'll know what caused the reaction so we can avoid just that one.
In Concord NC my son went for his 2 or 3 year old well check. He received 2 shots but had 3 stick marks. A learning on the job CNA stuck my son twice with the same syringe. She picked up the same empty syringe for his second shot. What made this worst was that an RN was supervising the CNA and she saw what happened but nevered informed me. I always check the injection site after getting home and that was when I notice the 3rd stick mark. I called back to the office and they said they would have to get back with me. When they called me back they were not going to be honest with what happened. I started asking more questions and the truth came out. They finally had the Dr to call me back within the hour to apologize and she gave me her home phone and cell number just in case we had problems.
The issue is not whether they delay or not the issue is they told her nothing about the other vaccinations they just did it. How would you feel if you went to the Dr for a routine procedure and they decided to snip snip without your consent. Thank you Morgan for bringing this story to light. Their are way too many Doctors office getting slack about the service they are providing. This is peoples lives and they need to be treated delicately. After all we only get the one.
